Our week was good, but poor Eliza has suffered since Tuesday night with a fever. It ranged from 101-103.8. Yesterday she was on Tylenol and Ibuprophen when it peaked at 103.8. Today, finally, it came down to 99.8. She was even giggling as she watched Tom and Jerry cartoons today. You may be wondering what the cause of the fever is. We're guessing a virus. Her throat has been terribly sore, but a strep test came back negative. Poor kid. She will have 3 days of catch up work to do next week.
By the way, how old were you when you first babysat your siblings or someone else's kids? I was 11 when a neighbor called and asked me to babysit for her two kids. Her oldest daughter was a year younger than me, so I thought it was strange that she wanted me to babysit. I found out later that the mother thought I was 12. Please vote on the sidebar about babysitting wages. I don't use an actual babysitter, but I am beginning to consider it. I have no idea what I would pay one.

I think I was about 12 when I started babysitting. It's once you get into YW and then suddenly you're so much older than primary kids. I was paid $5/hr, but that was 10 years ago. I'm not sure if it's changed. I have a friend that pays $5/hr for the first kid and then $1/hr for each kid after that.
Eliza's fever continued off and on again today. We only caught it around 102. 5 though. I hope it's a virus about to be killed out by her immune system. If not, I am a terrible mother who has learned nothing about sickness over the last ten years.
I can't remember how old I was when I started. I always had nieces and nephews that I would babysit. Someone other than family was when I was like...9-10 I believe. The mother was in the house, but shut away in her office. I fed and watched her 2 kids for like 5 hours probly. But seriously...a good babysitter gets paid like $8-10 an hour. That's usually what I got, but I'd tidy up, do the dishes, clean up after the kids so the parents wouldn't have a huge mess to come home to after relaxing. If all they do is watch the kids for a bit, put them to bed, and watch TV, only like $6 per/hr. I sound like I have this down to a science! haha.
I've never really babysat, but I'd say at least minimum wage. I also think it depends on how young/naive the babysitter is, and how many kids are being babysat. I remember doing a paper route for a kid up the street once. He paid me a dollar. I was probably bot young and naive.
Im probably the ONLY guy who comments about babysitting huh? I guess Im just a sensitive male.
